Puerto Rico Wedding Requirements

The laws in Puerto Rico require marriage applicants to do 4 steps:

• Obtain the marriage application form
• VDRL blood test by a federally certified laboratory (the test cannot be older than 14 days on the day of your wedding)
• A doctor in Puerto Rico must evaluate the blood test result to ensure that it says “non reactive”, and if so, the Doctor shall sign the marriage application in approval.
• Lastly, visit the Demographic Registry (license Bureau) to have all the documents authenticated (to obtain the marriage license) and to purchase two license stamps (total stamp cost is US $30).

Wedding applicants shall bring to the island the following documentation:

• Valid photo identification or passports- passports preferred
• Proof of divorce or death certificate (if applicable)

The registrar's office should be contacted for specific rules regarding planning your destination or beach wedding in Puerto Rico. They will also provide information regarding marriage licenses and marriage certificates.
